  • So the suicide bombers in London were all Muslim males under 30, who'd met at a government-sponsored Muslim youth club. The ringleaders were Muslim males in their 30s who have fled the country for Egypt and Pakistan.

Does it really take a master profiler to figure out who bears a little extra watching?

  • I heard several people on NPR today use the interrogative "how come" instead of "why". I'm from the midwest and I don't even use "how come". Stop trying to pretend like you're middle America. Nobody's buying it, any more than they're buying Hillary Clinton as a moral crusader.

  • Went to Chik-Fil-A for the first time in my life today. And I noticed that the person taking my order was caucasian. And so was everyone else taking orders. And then I remembered that the only other fast food restaurant in Arizona where that is true is In-N-Out Burger. Are Christian-owned fast food restaurants racist? Or is it just that they pay their workers better?

Oh, unlike In-N-Out Burger, I probably won't be back. The lemon pie was ok, but the chicken strips were limp, and the fries were white 'n mealy.

  • After [info]ladytabitha went and got me all excited about listening to Yello again, I realized that I have lost the copy of "One Second" that I've had since high school. I can't find it anywhere. I might have to go out and buy another one tonight.

I'm from the south, and we say "Why come" to be funny.

Chick-fil-a here in Texas has a wide array of colors working, but mostly whites or Mexicans. I find that eating inside the store to be a strange experience because they only play Christian music. They're Religion rules over capitalism in being closed on Sundays also disturbs me. I don't eat there, but then again I've made it a strong point to not eat fast food.

I haven't had In-N-Out in a very long time. A couple years before I moved from CA to TX at least.

Chik-Fil-As in North Carolina were pretty racially diverse, IIRC.

Y'all have some Broken[tm] Chik-Fil-As where you're at, then. The ones here are pretty damned good chicken. And waffle fries.

Hmm.. In high school, a friend (devout Mormon) worked there and stated it was because it was Mormon-run and refused to work elsewhere. I assumed he meant the whole company instead of that particular franchise. Thanks for the info.

Well, I hope you have a better definition of "watching" than random searches. The problem with profiling young obviously-Muslims is not necessarily the thousands of obviously-Muslims who are too busy driving cabs and praying five times a day to do their jihad on us. It's that, eventually they'll send their least obvious Muslims to do the job. And since babies with albinism may be born in Islamist states more often than white Europeans move there and convert, I'm worried that a bunch of albino suicide bombers will take something out, and as a result, I'll be on the TSA's finger-fuck list for the rest of my life. Because suddenly young men with white hair are The Profile.

You don't need to convince me that Islam is a dangerous religion. But, really, the chance that any given stranger is a suicide bomber is never zero. It's just that on a bus in the West, the chance for Muslims is closer to one in a million than one in a hundred million. And considering how many we've sent to Camp X-Ray, it's probably even less probable than that. I estimate that the random brown guy has as much a chance of killing me as second-hand smoke.

I'd rather spend our valuable resources on something that has a better chance of working, than searching some large fraction of a large group of people who have a slightly less tiny chance of blowing up. Perhaps I just haven't been following this closely enough, but I've never heard of a terrorist being caught because of a random search, and would be quite surprised if I found out that random searches catch more terrorists than long-term investigations or military operations.

"How come" is middle America? I had assumed it was a Delaware Valley thing, since I use it all the time. I wasn't even really aware that I was using it until recently. I know I used to use it a lot as a kid.

Oh, so THAT'S why Chik-Fil-A is closed on Sundays. Fuckers. We have black folks working at the local franchises, but then the black:white ratio in Philadelphia is about 1:1.

In NC the CFA workers were black, but not as across the board as other chains.
